WESTFIELDS have received a substantial cash boost after a highly successful 18th annual sportsman's dinner at the Three Counties Hotel.

Former British Lions and Wales rugby captain Phil Bennett and comedian Tony Jo entertained the 310 guests who then rallied round to support the auction.

A signed Alan Shearer Newcastle United shirt went to former Westfields player Chris Cole for £350 while Tony Killeen, managing director of allpay.net, a leading Westfields sponsor, stumped up £2,000 for a cricket bat signed by England's Ashes winning side and £2,100 for a Manchester United shirt signed by Ruud van Nistelrooy.

"The event was a brilliant success and everyone had a great time," said Westfields chief executive and auctioneer for the evening, Andy Morris. "Our auction just gets better every year.

"The sportsman's evening provides our club with the backbone of our funds for the season and provides our supporters and advertisers with a great night's entertainment.

"We are lucky to have the great support we have."
