Westfields 2 Oldbury United 1

TWIN strikers Paul Burton and Mark Davis bagged a goal each as Westfields came from behind to book their place in the second round of the Harvey World Travel Midland Alliance Cup at the expense of visiting Oldbury United.

Westfields should have scored in the first minute but Burton saw his effort cleared off the line.

The visitors hit back and intercepted a pass from Jon Hill to create a swift counter-attack, Scott Gerrard outpacing the home cover to fire past Jon Pugh.

This stung Westfields into action and a sustained period of pressure saw the Oldbury goalkeeper make a succession of fine saves to deny Davis, Scott Jackson, twice, and Burton.

Oldbury weathered the storm and came back strongly only for their striker Lee Booth to be frustrated twice in as many minutes by two superb saves from Pugh as they seemed certain to extend their lead.

Just before the break, Westfields levelled when good work down the right by Jackson and Carl Morgan created space for Burton who hit the target from an acute angle.

Westfields took control after the break and, following a period of flowing football, Davis rose to head home a right-wing free kick from Mark Hibbard for what was to prove the decisive goal.
