THE City of Hereford Swimming Club set 16 new club Speedo League records in the first round of the National Speedo League (Western) at Hutton Moor, Weston-Super-Mare.

"That is a great achievement at this stage of the season," said head coach Chris Treanor.

In this round, Exeter City, Kelly College, Thamesdown, Tigersharks, Weston-Super-Mare and West Wiltshire provided stiff opposition.

The team made an encouraging start with third places from Josh Haines (200 IM), the boys' 11 and under freestyle relay, and the boys' 13 and under medley relay where they missed second place by 50/100ths of a second. This set the stage for the junior boys with third places for Robert Griffiths in the 10/11 yrs 50m backstroke and Tom Stokes with a new personal best time in the 13-and-under 100m breaststroke.

Following this Ashleigh Powell took second place in the 100m backstroke, Josh Haines second in the 100m butterfly, followed by the two victories of the evening, Josh Haines in the 50m butterfly and Tom Stokes in the 100m backstroke.

Further second places were obtained in the boys' and girls' 11 and under freestyle through Isabella Fox's 33.57s and Josh Darby's 32.70s swims. Isabella was only 0.09 secs short of first place.

The remaining third place swims came from Lee O'Neil in the 100m backstroke, Callum Tuffin in the 50m breaststroke, Otto Putland in the 100m butterfly, Louise Griffiths in the 100m breaststroke, Sam Jones in the 100m breaststroke, the boys' medley relay teams in both 1'- and 15-and-under age groups and the boys' 13-and-under freestyle team.

The final points totals were Kelley College 214, Tigersharks 212, Exeter City 198, West Wiltshire 158, Hereford 138, Weston-Super-Mare 128.
