TRUMPET and District Agricultural Society's ploughing match often draws more than a hundred entries but last Thursday's event proved more popular than ever, attracting 120 tractor ploughmen and 13 teams of horses. It was the most entries in the society's 62-year history.
The site at the Brook, Little Marcle, kindly provided by Mr David Watkins of Ballingham Hall, Holme Lacy, proved excellent and the weather was kind.
The John Gwilliam Perpetual Memorial Trophy, presented by the family for the best ploughing on the day by any type of vintage plough, either trailed or mounted, was won by D Bryant, together with a replica and £100. John Gwilliam was world champion in 1960 and represented the Stoke Bliss society.
