Ledbury Town travelled to promoted Great Wyrley for their opening West Midlands premier division fixture and found themselves 3-0 down at half-time.

GREAT WYRLEY 4, LEDBURY TOWN 0

It was a disappointing start for Ledbury who found their hosts much too strong on the day and in a one-side first-half Ledbury did not manage one shot at goal.

Ledbury played a little better after the break and did manage to contain the home sides two strikers but a fourth goal made it a miserable day for the away outfit. On target for Wyrley were hat-trick hero Neil Knight and Mark Holdcroft.

LEDBURY TOWN 1, BRIERLEY & HAGLEY 0

LEDBURY Town put in a far better performance at home to Brierley & Hagley on Wednesday evening at New Street and dominated much of the match.

The home side took the lead after 15 minutes through the lively Nick Stockley and had other good chances before half-time.

After the break Brierley came more into the game but could not beat debut-making goalkeeper Adam McTear, who was named man-of-the-match after an outstanding game.

Ledbury did have the ball in the net twice more but each effort was ruled out for offside.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Ledbury Town continue their league programme when Heath Hayes are the visitors to New Street (2.45).

Ledbury are also in action on Tuesday (August 30) when they visit Wellington(7.45).
