Bromyard CC maintained their 100 per cent record, when it hasn't rained, with a six-wicket victory at home to newly promoted Harborne Thirds.

After winning the toss and putting the Warwickshire side in to bat, Bromyard produced a lacklustre bowling and fielding performance in the first 21 overs, letting Harborne get to 91-1 before a short break for rain.

The home side produced a much better effort for the remaining 28 overs of the Harborne innings, the game reduced to 49 overs per side due to the break.

The fight-back started with off-spinner Dan Mills taking a wicket with his first ball, having J Bowen caught behind by replacement keeper Mark Benbow. Dave Kyte then put in an excellent 14-over spell with very little luck.

Kyte finally bowled D Law for 17 to make it 157-3 in the 38th over. Two quick wickets followed, first Dan Mills with a throw which missed the stumps at the bowler's end but led to a run out at the keeper's stumps.

Then Ashley Bullock, with an excellent piece of fielding at point, ran out S Hughes with a direct hit for a well made 65.

The return of Zahid Saeed for the closing overs further stemmed the flow of runs, Zahid picking up 3-54 and Dave Kyte 2-29 from his 14 overs with three maidens.

Dan Mills and Pete Whittenbury, with 1-47 each, were the other wicket-takers as Harborne closed their innings on 206-9, some 50 runs short of what they looked like totalling at the 20-over mark.

In reply, the Bullock brothers looked assured before another short rain break reduced the innings by a further over, to 48. Matt ended his lean spell with a hard-hitting 38, including seven fours, before being bowled by medium-pacer I Gunthorpe with the score at 63 in the 16th over.

The run-rate then stagnated somewhat as Edd Oliver chipped a catch to short-cover off the same bowler having made six and Zahid was lbw to J Mckay from the other end for a duck. This left Bromyard on 90-3 after 29 overs and the game was in the balance.

However, Pete Whittenbury got the innings going again with a big hitting 21, including three fours and a six, before being excellently caught low-down at point. Mark Benbow continued to up the momentum with a superb quick-fire knock of 48no, including five fours and three big sixes, and Ash Bullock was the mainstay of the innings at the other end, making 71no with nine fours.

The two added an unbroken 83 in just ten overs to see Bromyard home with 3.3 overs to spare.

The win leaves Bromyard six points clear of Barnards Green at the top of WCL Division Two and 47 clear of this Saturday's opponents Netherton in third.

The seconds continued their disappointing start to the season, going down by eight wickets at Harborne fourths.

Bromyard made 142 all out having decided to bat first and Harborne made 143-2 in reply.
