TWO hours of torrential rain forced an abandonment of Bromyard's fourth Worcestershire County League game of the season, at home to division two newcomers Coombs Wood.

The Halesowen-based club had invited the home side to bat first and after the early loss of Matt Bullock, lbw for a duck, Bromyard made a good recovery to reach 66-1 after 13 overs.

Ash Bullock was 17no and Edd Oliver 12no on an unusually spicy Flaggoners Green track with 37 extras ending as top scorer.

The rain the intervened and after a two-hour torrential downpour there was no chance for any further play.

Bromyard seconds meanwhile lost by five wickets at Coombs Wood after a remarkable batting collapse.

From 60-1, after 38 from Chris Simmonds and 18 from Dave Benbow, they lost their last nine wickets for 19 to be 79 all out. The home side's Roy Turner doing most of the damage with 7-31.

After a two-hour rain break, Coombs Wood were soon in trouble themselves after losing three wickets to Elwyn Goulding, making a rare appearance during a brief home trip from Canada, and two to Dave Harris leaving them at 50-5.

They eventually got home for a five-wicket win.
