When Samantha Badham left primary school, she gave her teacher a drawing bearing the poignant message 'I hope you will always remember me'.

Twenty-five years later, Ledbury did not forget.

More than 600 people filled St Michael and All Angels' Church on Friday (August 5) for the funeral of Samantha and her boyfriend Lee Harris.

Both were killed in the London bombings on July 7.

Roads were closed as crowds gathered in silence as the two identical hearses make their way, side by side, up the Homend.

Although the couple shared a house in London, Samantha, 36, grew up in Ledbury. Lee, 30, was born in Much Birch, near Hereford.

They were due to celebrate their 14th anniversary on the night of the bombings.

Instead, their lives were cut short by the suicide attack on a tube train between King's Cross and Russell Square.

Lee, an architect, died in hospital several days later, while Samantha was killed instantly.

In a moving service, broadcast across the churchyard, friends and relatives paid an emotional tribute to a devoted couple, whose love brightened the lives of those around them.

Close friend Carol Jones said: "Sam and Lee had a bright shining future together which, sadly, they will no longer share with us. But you can be certain they will have some great tales to tell when we all meet up again.

"All of you here today, family friends and work colleagues from around the world, have had your lives enriched by knowing them."

Samantha's family had lived in Ledbury for generations and both she and her younger sister Louise attended Ledbury Primary School and John Masefield High School.

Ledbury team vicar Sue Strutt, who led the service with Rev Kay Garlick of Much Dewchurch, spoke of the sadness and shock felt by residents of the town.

"People have really taken this to their hearts and it's made them more aware of the world situation," he said.

After the service, the couple were buried in Ledbury Cemetery.
