A NEWENT car enthusiast and his daughter are preparing to hit the road for a popular annual event.

John Hamer and his daughter Debbie will take to the wheel of a 1931 Austin 10 for the Herefordshire Cider Chase on Saturday, August 27.

The event, now in its 13th year is a non-competitive classic and sports car run, attracting entrants from across the country.

Cars follow a suggested route, encompassing many of Herefordshire's famous cider makers and vineyards, including Bodenham Court, Paunton Court, Westons Cider and Hereford Cider Museum.

"We've done it for many years," said Debbie.

"My dad loves his car and it's a great excuse to get it out on the road and go to places we wouldn't normally think of going."

Event organiser Malcolm Williams said: "We give people a suggested route, but they can get to places however they like, they've got all day to do it.

"We've got all sorts of cars coming along, it's a really nice day out."

The event begins in Ashperton, near Ledbury, and finishes with a buffet.
