A DEVELOPER looking to build six homes in the grounds of a house off Bury Bar, Newent, is fighting a decision to refuse planning permission.
Millstrand Developments Ltd has appealed to a Government inspector to overturn a decision by Forest of Dean District Council in June to reject the scheme.
The firm had already secured permission to convert a property called Scillonia into apartments when it applied for six link-detached homes on a bank above Bury Bar, in part of Scillonia's grounds.
The proposals brought objections from neighbouring residents, citing concerns about road safety and the potential for structural damage to their property and loss of privacy.
Bury Bar has no pavement at the top end and is a well-used route into town from parts of Foley Road and the Appledown estate.
The road safety objection was supported by Newent Town Council and the County Surveyor. The developer had offered to fund a footpath extension.
