PETER Dyke, assistant organist of Hereford Cathedral, will demonstrate his masterly control of the newly-reconditioned Willis organ at a concert on Thursday, August 18, at 7.30pm.
The concert will be the fourth in a series of gala evening performances and free Tuesday lunchtime recitals, following the restoration of the instrument enabled by a Heritage Lottery Grant.
"My familiarity with the organ has allowed me to select a demanding and exciting programme featuring many sides of the instrument that people will not have heard before," Peter said.
"The fireworks start straight away with a transcription of Brahms's popular orchestral work, the Academic Festival Overture.
"As far as I know, this arrangement has never been heard in Hereford before. Another highlight will be Durufl's Suite, which uses the full range of colours and power available."
Tickets, priced £6 (students half price; under 16s free), can be purchased in advance from the cathedral shop or Hereford Cathedral Perpetual Trust (01432 271990) or on the evening of the concert.
