TONY JAMES (6): (Centre-back, 9-10-1978, 5'11'', 295+9/19) Two seasons ago, critics such as Peter Shreeve were describing the United skipper as the best defender in the Conference. Last season, however, a pre-season disrupted by injury was the start of a campaign where James often struggled to reproduce his best form. Ironically, just as he seemed to be getting his game together, a serious ankle injury effectively ended his season. At his best, the former West Bromwich Albion trainee is an essential member of the Hereford line-up, not least for his unflappable ability to convert penalties.
