IT has been something of a roller-coaster ride for Rose Johnson, from Lower Eggleton, at the Women's World Gliding Championship at Klix in Germany.

After an excellent start with a second place in the opening race, things have not gone exactly to plan for the Worcester doctor.

Johnson had two successive 11th place finishes which moved her down to eighth place overall and with bad weather taking a grip, flying was possible on only three of the following six days.

Johnson finished in a creditable seventh place in last Thursday's race but followed up with a 14th the next day.

Weather again grounded the pilots at the weekend but the Club Class, of which Johnson is one, got underway in bad conditions again on Monday, just before the weather deteriorated again and brought a halt to the other classes.

Virtually everyone, however, was forced to land out in fields and Johnson was one of these, securing a 12th place finish which leaves her in overall 13th place with four days of the championship remaining.
