HEREFORDSHIRE County Bowling Association visited St Margaret's Bowling Club, Leicester, for the annual match against Leicester BA and although having two winning rinks and a draw, lost by 120 to 103.

Dave Holloway skipped Herefordshire's highest winning rink when, after leading 14-13 at 14 ends, they won six of the remaining seven ends to secure a comfortable 25-15 victory. The rink skipped by Kingsland's John Bevan provided the other success with a tremendous fight-back from 17-3 down at 10 ends to pick up 21 shots against three lost in the remaining 11 ends for an excellent 24-20 win.

Ray Walker skipped his rink to an 18-18 draw, scoring a six and four in the process, after being down 8-1 at six ends.

The rink skipped by Don Pugh fought hard but were always behind and finished 21-15 down, and Ron Perry's rink was down 12-1 after seven ends and although they held their own on the remaining ends 9-9, finally lost 21-10.

Herefordshire's highest losing rink was skipped by Jack Gray who were always behind and went down 25-11.

l WEOBLEY'S Barbara Warburton, representing Herefordshire, gained a preliminary round win of the champions of champions singles in the English Women's Bowls Championships before losing in the first round.

She beat Y Woodcock (Sussex) 5-4, 5-6, 2-0 and then went down 4-11, 9-4, 0-2 to W Smart (Berkshire).

Brimfield moved through the first round of the triples with a 22-10 success against Plymouth City Bus but were defeated by Bude at the second stage.

Eastnor bowed at the first hurdle, going down 22-11 to Blackwell.
