Leominster have put one hand on the Nash Rocks League championship with two convincing wins this week.

With 48 points scored, they are four points ahead of Kington in second place on 44 points and still have a match in hand. Kington must win their remaining match and hope that Leominster lose their last two games by a wide margin to give them the chance to retain the title.

Leominster began their successful week with an all-rink victory when they visited St Martin's who are playing their last home matches on their green before making way for the new ASDA development.

But the key to Leominster's title bid was the home victory in the match against Kingsland four days later.

Kingsland's hopes of featuring in the final run-in for the title were dashed when they lost at Leominster in what was a must-win game for both clubs. The match was evenly balanced with both clubs winning three rinks, but the decisive win for Leominster came from the rink skipped by John Harris. They picked up a 27-14 shot win and the 13-shot winning margin was sufficient to steer Leominster home.

Earlier, Kingsland, who had several games in hand on both Leominster and Kington, had won two of the outstanding games, and a win at Leominster would have put them within reach of the title.

A good away win at St Martin's, where they only lost on one rink, was followed up by a 10-shot home victory against Brimfield.

The visitors gave the home club a run for their money, however, by winning four out of six rinks played, but Ken Edwards rink saved the day for Kingsland by producing a 28-14 shot victory.

St Martin's played their third match in a busy week when they entertained Weobley to secure their only win in the three matches played. Weobley's rink skipped by Roy Warburton picked up a one-shot victory in their only success as all the other rinks went to St Martin's by a comfortable margin.
