Hereford Rugby Club have created a new team to provide people with learning disabilities with the opportunities to participate in sport within their community.

The new team, called Hereford Bulldogs, has been formed to open the door to a world of inclusion, increased fitness, self-belief, team involvement, wider ranging social opportunities, and a chance for competition - all the benefits everyone receives from involvement in sport.

The Rugby Inclusion Project was launched in May 2003 and is an exciting and innovative new rugby project in the areas of Herefordshire and Shropshire. The project aims to bring to life changing opportunities to people with learning difficulties within the local community.

The project will help support the creation of new sustainable Learning Disability sections within pilot clubs such as Telford Hornets in Shropshire and Hereford RFC in Herefordshire.

This project is targeted at the grass roots and will be part of the local rugby communities involving both clubs and individuals.

"As one of the leading sports clubs within Herefordshire we agree with the principle that everyone who wants to play sport should be given the chance. We are very pleased to form this partnership with TACT and look forward to seeing many new players at Wyeside," said Malcolm Harris, Hereford's youth section chairman.

The Bulldogs will play tag rugby, a non contact form of the game. Training will start on Sunday, September 11 from10.30am till noon at Wyeside.
