THE rising three-year-old bull from Dilwyn breeders E L Lewis and Son - Haven Wizard - was the supreme champion at the National Hereford Show at Tenbury Wells.

The win also secured the accolade of the horned Hereford bull of the year to add to Wizard's breed title at June's Three Counties Show, along with the reserve interbreed award.

E L Lewis and Son also collected the reserve junior male title with 10-month-old Haven Bentley and the reserve award for the best group of five cattle.

There were other local successes with the reserve intermediate male championship going to Free Town Arcadian, a 17 month old, bred and exhibited by R A Bradstock and Partners of Tarrington.

The sires group championship was collected by a trio bred and exhibited by Ralph Bailey of Pandy, Abergavenny, and by the sire Border General V85.

The reserve best pair of calves of either sex was taken by Zintec Agriculture of Shobdon.

The judge for the catalogued entry of more than 140 was Sam Coleman, over from Northern Ireland.

As the reserve supreme champion he chose the grand female, Sarabande Emma 37th, a cow showed with her 8-month-old calf, bred and exhibited by Pam Noel and Robert Snelling of Reading. The award led to the cow securing the horned female of the year title.

The reserve grand male was the reserve senior male champion Ingon Victory from R W and E V Bingham, Stratford-upon-Avon. The reserve female championship went to the junior female champion, 11-month-old Longville Lindy Loo from A H Bennett of Much Wenlock who also took the reserve junior female championship with the 9-month-old heifer, Longville Skylark.

Rounding off a good day, Mr Bennett took the reserve group by the same sire, a trio by Clipston Beckett, the trophy for the pair of calves of either sex and the final class, the best pair of heifer calves at the show.

The intermediate female championship went to the rising 2-year-old heifer Mara Diadem from R N and M A Borwick of Northampton, who also collected the trophy for the best group of five.

The intermediate male championship went to 17-month-old Sarabande Zippy, from Pam Noel and Robert Snelling.

The junior male championship award was taken by an 11-month-old calf, Badlingham Brinton from A G Wright and Son, Ely, who also took the reserve title for the pair of heifer calves, and the trophy for the best horned show herd.
