HEREFORDSHIRE'S under-16 cricketers had a day to remember when they hammered local rivals Worcestershire by 105 runs in the Lord's Taverners National under-16 competition.
Worcestershire won the toss and put Herefordshire into bat in the match at Pershore but the decision quickly looked misguided as the visitors, through Mike King (24) and the aggressive Andrew Aston (79) raced to 109 before the first wicket fell.
After a mini-collapse, under-14 player Seb Warwick (42) and Chris Wheeler (30) played their part in rallying the innings which eventually closed on 236.
Wheeler and Josh Emery opened the attack for Herefordshire and quickly made inroads with three wickets in their opening burst.
King (2-28) bowled well to put pressure on the middle order and Wheeler's pace was sufficient to clean up the tail to leave the home side 131 all out. The impressive Wheeler finished with 5-14 from eight overs.
