A PROPOSAL to build five new houses in the centre of Leominster has been put on ice.

The scheme would involve demolishing a large 1950's house and replacing it with a terrace of five smaller homes and a parking area.

Herefordshire planning chiefs have recommended the development, believing it would "make a positive contribution to the character of the conservation area".

The car park for just three cars is below recommended standards but officers argue there is plenty of local parking so this would be acceptable.

But members of Herefordshire Northern Area planning sub committee deferred a decision so that they can make a site visit and see for themselves.
