FLINT & Cook Marches Division 1 leaders Monmouth were pushed all the way in a high- scoring encounter at Garnons.

In a game that produced 561 runs, they came out on top by 29 runs to complete the double over the home side after setting them a target of 296.

Wayne Etheridge (58) and Bob Prewett (54) shared an opening partnership of 116 to lay the bedrock of the huge total. David Teague stroked a quick-fire 61 to keep Monmouth in the driving seat and then Australian Charlie Bye smote four sixes in a breezy 54.

John Jones (22) and Dan Head (10) were there at the end to complete the innings on 295-5.

Garnons made a flying start to their innings with Jon Andrews (78) and Alan Jones (37) taking the score to 58 after the first eight overs.

Once this partnership was broken the momentum dropped until Stuart Griffiths (61) and Richard Mason (44) came together to share a profitable partnership which took their final score to 266-7.

Ian Herbert scored a ton and James Cutler took seven wickets as Wormelow bounced back to form with a big home victory over visiting Glangrwyney.

The home side posted a total of 278-5 and went on to complete a 113-run win after bowling out their opponents 165 in 42 overs.

Shaun Waldron (69) and Jamie Langford (21) shared an opening partnership of 62 before leaving Herbert to dominate the rest of the innings. He stroked 17 fours and one six during his undefeated innings of 113 and received steady support from Tim Boulter (19) and Cutler (23 not out).

The first three Glangrwyney batsmen, Matthew Lennox (30), Geoff Holmes (14) and Tom Grubb (64), threatened to make a game of it before spinner Cutler got into the groove to take 7-55 and demolish the innings.

It was a similar story at Llandrindod where 17-year-old Peter Bailey completed his maiden century for visiting Burghill & Tillington who went on to hammer the luckless home team by 146 runs. Burghill made 288-6 and then bowled out Llandrindod for 142.

Bailey (112 including 14 fours and one six) shared an opening partnership of 182 with Kingsley Morris to put his side in total command. Nick Phelps (34) and Clive Chadhani made sure the start was not wasted.

Martin Hurst (54) tried hard to repair the damage after his side had slipped to 9-3 until he fell to young off-spinner John Terry (3-38). A Cox (25 no) shared a last-wicket stand of 28 with L Jones before Bailey rounded off a good day by removing the latter.

Canon Frome never recovered from a slow start and were well beaten by eight-wickets after being bowled out for 166 at home to Goodrich.

The Frome openers were tied up by the opening attack and could only score at a run per over for the first 10 overs. Neither opener was able to capitalise on their stay at the wicket, although Chris Styles (22) was unluckily run out with a direct hit from the boundary.

Neil Andrews (35) and Andy Rogers (22) added 51 for the fourth wicket and Seth Marshall scored 35 but it proved too little too late. Mike Evans and Alex Russell shared eight wickets.

They did have a slice of luck when they also benefited from a direct hit from the boundary before Phil Evans (39 no) and R Lord (102) swept the visitors to victory in the 38th over.
