JOCKEY Brendan Powell is soon to join the training ranks but he gave a demonstration of his still able riding ability with a fluent success on Bracey Run in the Merrivale Stud Handicap Hurdle at Hereford races on Tuesday, writes Graham Saveker.

Brought with a late challenge, Bracey Run always had too many guns for runner-up Windy Valley while the Pam Ford-trained Little Serena ran on well at third.

The Ivor Johnson Memorial Hunterschase went to the Richard Burton-ridden Silverdalesureshot in impressive fashion. Burton was content to allow his horse to remain the backmarker of the three runners for most of the three-mile trip. But once he sent his mount to the front, they soon pulled well clear of their rivals to record an easy win.

There was a local success in the final event on the card, the Entertain at Hereford Bumper, when Go While Lightning, owned by Bulmers, easily scored over the favourite, Intox III.

Making ground steadily, the improving five-year-old quickened nicely off the final bend to win in the hands of Richard Studholme for trainer Mark Bradstock.
