TOWN COUNCIL - Knighton Town Council had agreed to let the Knighton branch of Amnesty International use Brookside Square for a stall on Saturday, May 27, from 10am until 12noon. The council agreed to defer signing a sub-lease on the old tennis courts to the YMCA until the next meeting. Members wanted it stated in the sub-lease that the YMCA would be responsible for any rent above the £150 per annum that the town council had agreed to pay the county council. On a majority decision, the council supported to the proposed change of use from antiques shop to caf at The Chandos, High Street. No objection was made to an application from Knighton Town Football Club to renew its entertainment's licence.

Authorisation for four contributions to schemes was granted. The schemes were:Knighton Summer Scheme (£500), Offas Dyke Playground contribution to Powys County Council of painting and repair (£500), Age Concern -- contribution to drop-in centre (£500) and Knighton Tourism 2000 for Medieval Festival from June 9-11 (£1,000).The council also agreed to renew its membership of the Powys Association of Town and Community Councils at £224 for a year, with an additional £9.99 for the local council review.

CANCER RELIEF - Macmillan Cancer Relief will hold a jumble sale on Saturday, June 3, at 3pm in the church hall. On June 6, the walk for the Macmillan Mile will take place. It will start at 7pm at the Norton Arms car park and proceed along the riverside walk to Panpunton Bridge over the River Teme and the railway line at the pedestrian crossing and return to Knighton by way of Kinsley Road. Coffee will be served to participants at the Knighton Hotel. Sponsorship forms can be obtained from Mrs MA Cox on 01547 528698 and from Leisurecraft.

ROADSHOW - The next Ultimate Roadshow will be on Friday, June 19, at the community centre. The youngsters disco will be from 7pm until 9pm and the adult dance will be from 9.30pm until 1am.
