SCHOOL REGISTER - At a recent parish council meeting at Upton Bishop, Councillor Ridge reported that there were now about 155 children on the register at Gorsley Goffs School.

GARDEN CLUB - For their first trip out this year, Gorsley Garden Club members visited a lovely place at the Red House at Pillows Green, Staunton. They heard from the lady, who welcomed them there, that all things were grown on organic lines. The family had been there since about 1975, and a marvellous amount of work and planting had gone on since. They had created as much shelter as possible, and now had lots of creeper-clad walls, ponds and rough grass areas. There was also a good amount of various local varieties of fruit trees. The owners, Keith and Kit Turner, also had a lot of various types of birds there, and also ponds.

CHRIST CHURCH - At the PCC's annual meeting, the following became the new members of the PCC: Church warden, Mrs V Ferguson; pro-warden, Mr G Powell; treasurer, Mr N Langstone; and Mrs E Chivers, Mrs L Cropper, Mrs P Rowley, Mr and Mrs Walker and Mr D Glover. The deanery reps are Mrs D Bach and Mrs M Glover.

OLD GORSLEY - Dr Cecil H Clough was an excellent speaker at a special evening held in the village school, with the 100 seats being sold out long before the meeting. Dr Clough gave an account of what happened in the past, such as the way people from the area walked long distances to attend Sunday services in both Linton and Aston Ingham, anything up to a three-mile walk.
