Hereford Fly Fishing Club have qualified for the second and penultimate round of the House of Hardy International - the biggest fly fishing contest in the world - which is contested by the four home countries with additional teams from Europe.

Thirteen teams of six competed in the opening round at Rutland Water, the biggest man-made lake in Europe with 3,000 acres, and the top five went through to the second round at the same venue on July 7.

Hereford finished third behind Rutland who had the advantage of being able to practise on their own lake throughout the week.

Fishing conditions were difficult but all Hereford members recorded catches, led by Danny North, in a good team effort. The other five were Peter Norman, Daniel Price, Geoff Franks, Ian Peberdy and Eric Griffiths.

They will be aiming for a good finish in the second round to go through to the final at Chew Valley Lake.
