JOE James completed a Kington county double when he won the Herefordshire Seniors' Championship played at Leominster GC, his club colleague Ed Deasey having previously won the Men's Championship at Sapey.

Helped by a brace of twos over the back nine holes, he carded a gross 76 to win the title by two shots from former champion Graham Slade.

n Herefordshire county captain John McQuillan and promising junior Gregg Morgan both posted two-round totals of 151 to tie for Herefordshire GC's Spring Scratch Cup and will play off over 18 holes for the title.

Played in conjunction with the Mackie Cup, McQuillan's attempt to complete the double was thwarted by Steve Griffiths whose nett total of 140 edged out McQuillan by a shot.

n Wilf Arrowsmith edged out Terry Green on a card countback to win Leominster's Dave Barnes Cup after they had each carded a nett 67.

Leominster past captains Dennis Mills, Brian Hunt and Jack Cooper figured amongst the prizes in the Society of Shropshire and Herefordshire Club Captains' annual summer meeting at Royal St David's, Harlech.

Mills claimed second place in the nett competition with 35 stableford points and partnered Dave Wase, of Oswestry, to a win the hidden pairs 13-hole afternoon event with a combined total of 43 points. Hunt posted 34 points to take third place in the main event, and Cooper paired up with Ron Riley, of Wrekin, to fire 43 points in the hidden pairs, but lost out to Mills and Wase on a countback.
