THERE was an appropriately Herefordshire feel to the champagne finish of Hereford Racecourse's 1999-2000 season.
The Tanners Wine Awards for the course's leading jockey and trainer for the season were made and both the recipients of a magnum and case of champagne hailed from the county.
Top jockey Richard Johnson is from Madley and he finished with 158 points, 25 more than second-placed Liam Cummings, while last year's winner and champion jockey Tony McCoy was third.
The leading trainer was Nigel Twiston-Davies, from Much Dewchurch, who now has a yard in Naunton, Gloucestershire. He collected 128 points, 17 more than last season's winner and champion trainer Martin Pipe. Henry Daly, of Ludlow, was third.
