BURGHILL Valley professional David Park tees up in this week's Standard Life Loch Lomond Invitation event hoping to recapture the form which shot him to prominence on the PGA European Tour.

His recent run continued last weekend when he fired a seven over par 36-hole total of 151 (74,77) to miss the cut in the Smurfit European Open at the K Club near Dublin.

A win at Loch Lomond would guarantee his place in the following British Open at St Andrews, while a top finish could just win him enough money to qualify on a mini-order of merit table.

If he fails to gain a place by either of these methods he will have to try his luck with a lot of other hopefuls in the final qualifying rounds.

In Park's case this would mean playing for one of the 10 places available at Ladybank over 36 holes on Sunday and Monday.

He finished 10th in last season's Loch Lomond event. He was challenging for the lead until a triple bogey on the 12th hole of the final round put him out of contention and allowed European number one Colin Montgomery to come through and win.

Keith Preece, Park's close friend and assistant professional at Burghill Valley, just failed to gain a place in the final Open qualifying rounds when a two-over-par 73 in the first qualifier at Copt Heath saw him miss out by a shot.
