DYFED Powys Police are appealing for information following two attempted burglaries in the Brecon area.

Last Wednesday at 3.30pm, an elderly woman in Dyfynog Road, Sennybridge, disturbed two men who attempted to enter her home via a window pane in her front door.

One man is described as being 19-20 years old with fair hair, cut short at the sides and long on top.

He was of athletic build, six feet tall and wore a blue cotton T-shirt with red squares on the front and light blue jeans. He spoke with an English accent. There is no description of the second person.

The men ran off before making their escape in what the police believe is a red Vauxhall Cavalier car.

On the same day, about half an hour later, three males called at a warden-controlled flat in Masons Row, Brecon, stating that they were from the council and asking to check water pressure.

One person was allowed into the flat but left when the elderly female occupant became suspicious.

He is described as tall and slim with short mousey hair. He wore jeans and a navy top.

Brecon Community Safety's, Jackie Heighway, is urging the public not to let strangers into their homes - no matter what reason or how they are dressed.

"Appearances can be very deceptive," she says. "These people do not care about you or your prized possessions, all they want is to steal from you. Don't let them get away with it.

"I appeal to anyone with information regarding these despicable crimes to contact the CID at Brecon police Station on 01874 622331, or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously and free on 0800 555111."
