IN a remarkable game at Cirencester on Saturday Colwall took their third league win of the season mainly down to a superb Dave Sutton hat-trick.

CIRENCESTER v COLWALL

Batting firs on a very difficult wicket Colwall were subject to an invasion of sorts as South African bowler Vrenberegt took six wickets for only 16 runs in 12 overs to condemn Colwall to 43-7 after the first 21 overs.

The unpredictable pitch matched with Vrenberegt's accurate bowling saw Colwall all out for just 66 runs. Only opener Simon Cain (19) and John Berry gave any resistance and 19 extras proved critical as Neil and Peyman removed the tail to record Colwall's lowest total of the season.

What followed next was quite extraordinary as Colwall went on to secure a 20 run win, bowling out Cirencester for only 46.

Simon Cain took two wickets in the opening over, the second thanks to a sharp catch by wicket keeper Steve Ferguson.

Six overs later he again caught well as did Tim Riley at slip to claim two wickets for Fred Conein and leave Cirencester reeling at 4-7.

The fifth wicket stand of Pathirana and Godding however looked to have put the home side in sight of victory leading them to 38 off 17overs.

Goddard though was bowled by Dave Sutton for 20 and with Barney Bamford catching Pathirana at point off Jordan Kontarines' bowling the game opened up.

Cirencester however lost five wickets for no runs falling from 38-4 to 38-9 as Dave Sutton claimed his first Colwall hat-trick. Peyman went first, caught by John Berry at mid-off before Vrenberegt was stumped by Ferguson on the next ball.

As Neill, the tenth Cirencester batsman came to the wicket Colwall fielders crowded the bat and an edge off the face of the bat was caught at short gully by Tim Riley to ensure the hat-trick and figures of 4-2 off 6 for Sutton.

The last wicket partnership of Huxtable and Clayton looked calm at the crease and needed 29 to take victory. They only made eight of these however as Jordan Kontarines' sharp fielding saw Huxtable run out and a Colwall victory by 20 runs.

Tomorrow (Saturday) Colwall are at home to Malmesbury while the Seconds visit Malmesbury Seconds.
