THE tragic death of a Monkland woman's grandson has prompted an appeal to buy baby monitors.
May Parker has raised around £3,000 for the Cot Death Society's Millennium Appeal following the sudden death of her baby grandson, Sam Parker-Hendry, on Boxing Day last year.
A huge fund-raising effort, involving a sponsored walk from the Starting Gate in Hereford to Leominster and a car boot sale by family and supporters, helped raise the majority of the money.
"There was a magnificent effort made involving many non-walkers and there is already £500 in the bank," said May.
She added: "The Cot Death Society is the only supplier of baby breathing monitors, which cost £400 each. When people decide to pluck up enough courage to have another child, they need the reassurance of these monitors," explained May.
Sam was found to be a "well cared for, well nourished baby" with no undetected illnesses at post mortem.
