LADIES' Day during the Millennium Week of Golf at Ross-on-Wye was marked with a very interesting competition. Teams of three played off the red, white and blue tees in turn as they made their way around the course, with all the scores counting on the par fives, two scores counting on the par fours, and only one on the par threes.

In addition each player was allowed one 'throw' at any time during the round, and this called for some strategic decisions by the team captains. Heather Fearnside obviously got this right as she led her team, which also included Audrey Causon and Judith Landau, to 77 stableford points and victory.

Val Monk, Pat Beaman and Margaret Ellis were two points adrift on 75, with Beryl Newnham, Theresa Eddles and Carol Malim close behind on 74 points.

Jo Baker totalled 16 strokes to win the putting competition.
