Wantage Town 1

Pegasus Juniors 4

PEGASUS claimed their first away win of the season in the Premier Division of the Cherry Red Record Hellenic League with a dominating display at Wantage.

Phil Beavan nearly gave the city side the lead straight from the kick off when grazed the far post with a first time effort, while Mark Davis had a penalty saved by home keeper Phil Belcher after 15 minutes.

However, Davis made no mistake when Martin Powell released him in the area soon afterwards and he beat Belcher with a shot on the turn from 12 yards.

And Davis featured again when the visitors doubled their lead on the stroke of half time when he passed into the path of Beavan, who stroked the ball home.

Beavan almost claimed his second on the hour when he hit the underside of the bar with a 30-yard free kick, while Lawrence Helme notched the third after a back heel from Leigh Harris.

Darren Jones completed the Pegasus scoring with a 12-yard effort from a narrow angle, before Matt Sears grabbed a consolation for Wantage when he headed home from a corner.

Previously, Pegasus Juniors overcame local rivals Ross Town 2-1 in the preliminary round of the Cherry Red Records Hellenic League Floodlit Cup.

Phil Beavan put Pegasus in front before Andrew Trotman put visiting Ross back level with a lob. However, Gavin Stone had the last word when he scored just minutes after coming on as a substitute.
