Leominster Ladies moved into the quarter-finals of the Travelsphere national knockout competition with a thrilling second round victory over Bristol club Kingswood and Hanham at Bredon BC.

With each team having won two matches the tie was decided on a countback of the shot difference over the four matches.

Tracey Powell gave Leominster a flying start with a 21-15 victory in the singles, but a 19-25 defeat for Thelma Watts and Carol Hodgson saw Kingswood and Hanham draw level.

The triple of Pat Davies, Jean Smith and Audrey Cade lost a tight match 11-14, before the rink of Sylvia Harris, Minnie Blears, Olive Goodwin and Glenys Eley squared the tie with a 22-14 win.

A countback of the scores in the four matches gave Leominster a five-shot winning margin, and earned them a place in the final stages to be played at Leamington Spa over the weekend of September 23-24.

Previously Leominster had advanced to the second round with 3-1 victory over Greenhill Ladies (Weymouth) at Bradford-on-Avon.

Thelma Watts and Carol Hodgson edged the doubles match 17-16, while the triples side of Pat Davies, Jean Smith and Audrey Cade won 17-15.

The rinks team of Sylvia Harris, Minnie Blears, Olive Goodwin and Glenys Eley triumphed 18-13, but Linda Smith was pipped 20-21 in the singles.
