KINGTON Show on Saturday broke more records, helped by the weather and a thrilling main-ring programme which included Roman chariot racing.

Peter Collishaw, secretary, said the show had proved extremely successful. "It was excellent and very well presented, with no major problems."

He said entries were a record in the livestock section, dog show and horticultural marquee. The attendance was also up on the previous year while trade stands had been kept very busy. It was encouraging, said Mr Collishaw, to see so many agricultural merchants displaying their machinery and various products.

In the cattle section, the champion was a Hereford, exhibited by Nicholas and Heath of Chester.

The supreme champion sheep was a Charollais, shown by Jennifer Curtis of Evesham, with the reserve, a Texel, exhibited by Winifred Jones of Titley.

The champion horse was a children's riding pony, shown by Andrea Boyle of West Bromwich. The reserve was a Section A Welsh Pony from by C J Tibbey.
