THE launch of The Register for a GM (genetically modified) Free Herefordshire during the Three Choirs Festival proved a great success, now having 500 signatories.

During the next few months the campaign will be touring Herefordshire giving more people the chance to sign up.

The objective of the campaign is to declare Herefordshire a GM Free county, where gardeners, farmers and beekeepers can ply their trade without fear of genetic pollution and we can be sure that our environment isn't being harmed by the use of GM crops.

The more pieces of the jigsaw that are filled in the stronger case the campaign can present.

The Register is aiming to gain a representative from each parish in Herefordshire to work as an ally in furthering the campaign.

If you would like further information regarding giving help to the campaign please contact Julia on 01981 277424. To register your wish to keep all the growing space under your control free from GM contamination and that you would like it to remain that way until your completely satisfied that there are no risks to your health and that of others, or to the environment from GM crops.

Send your name, address, type and size of growing space (for example, window box, four-acre small holding, 500-acre country estate or small garden). Please sign your declaration and send it to GM Free Register, 2 Letterbox Cottage, Ledgemoor, Weobley, Hereford HR4 8RB. During the next two weeks the Register for a GM Free Herefordshire can be found at the South Hereford Forum meeting held at John Kyrle High School in Ross-on-Wye on September 20 and Hereford Farmers Market on September 21.
