Sallie Peacock, the new head of English at Bromyard's Queen Elizabeth High School, said it was her challenge to "raise achievement" in reading and writing at the school.
Mrs Peacock was second in command at Ludlow CE School for nine years before her move to Bromyard.
"I thought it would be a challenge to come to a smaller school, with the opportunity to be head of English and be over the library facility as well," she said.
"Such jobs are few and far between in this area and when I came to the Queen Elizabeth High School for the interview, I liked it here."
She said of her first few weeks in the new job: "We have an Ofsted inspection after half term and that is focusing our attention somewhat."
