THE 'Helta Skelta' tree is the latest creation in Hereford's innovative 'carver' scheme.
David Jones' abstract sculpture near the play area on the King George V Playing Field is the 14th dead or dying tree to be given a second life as public art.
The painted 15ft high spiral relates to the loud colours and exciting shapes in the children's playground.
"Most people who speak to me are very positive. They seem not only pleased about public art, but art being made in public, as they can see the progress and have a little chat to the maker," said David.
The next tree to be transformed will be a large beech in the Gaol Street car park. Artist Philip Bews will carve it into a giant knight incorporating some well-known Hereford buildings.
