Hereford'S new £3 million library should be based in Broad Street, the county council cabinet is expected to hear next week, writes BILL TANNER.
The Hereford Times can confirm that a conversion of Kemble House, a site adjacent to the present library, has the official stamp of approval.
That doesn't mean it's got the go-ahead; cabinet may make a recommendation at its meeting next Thursday on which the full council will decide in October.
Building on Goal Street car park is seen as the only viable alternative.
Schemes for the Buttermarket and Town Hall are out of the running as 'unrealistic'. Expanding Kemble House is proposed as a public/private sector project, full details of which were revealed by this newspaper in July.
Included in the initiative is underground parking, an existing caf/restaurant and retention of the third floor flats.
Construction costs are estimated at around £3.4 million.
