THERE is a diverse selection of visual art at The Courtyard this month and it's not just confined to the gallery. Featuring contemporary painting, mosaics and sculpture, the exhibition is a showcase of local talent that fills the public spaces with eye-catching colour, shape and theme.

In the main gallery, Polly Townsend's extraordinary paintings are transitional between body and landscapes.

"In them," she says, "I attempt to discover the magnificent freedoms of time, familiarity, strangeness and natural beauty."

Ingrid Bain, who already has work on permanent display at The Courtyard, creates exquisite mosaics of vibrant colour. Ingrid creates clocks, picture frames, plaques and mirror frames, mostly taking her inspiration from the dynamics of water in the natural world.

Laura Jones, is a 23-year-old Hereford-based artist whose paintings are inspired by people she has met and situations she has been in. Some of her work is influenced by children's books and is more illustrative, reflecting her experience as a mother.

Jacob Rock's giant crows and brightly coloured fish have been created with The Courtyard in mind and make use of the building's interiors in a highly original way. Inspired by African art and popular culture, Jacob says his exhibition will 'appeal to children and the child in all of us'.

The exhibition runs until Friday October 13 and admission is free. The Courtyard is open six days a week from 10am.
