Bromyard clinched the Division 2 title in the Worcestershire County League with a comfortable seven-wicket away win over mid-table Barnards Green.

This completed a remarkable turnaround in fortunes for the Hereford-shire club who only avoided relegation from the division last year courtesy of the results on the final day of the season.

Bromyard restricted Barnards Green to 102-8 in a game reduced to 41 overs due to the weather and then knocked off the runs with eight overs to spare.

After winning the toss and inserting the home team on a rain-affected wicket, Bromyard produced a disciplined bowling performance which always had their opponents in a stranglehold. James Hine, Ashley Bullock and Neil Holmes shared six of the wickets to fall, whilst James Young was top score for the home team with 25.

When the visitors replied, James Bevan dropped anchor and batted throughout the innings for 24, giving his partners the freedom to play their shots. Ashley Bullock gave his team a flying start, taking 24 off the opening three overs, before Jeremy Leighton (29) joined Bevan in a 50-run partnership. After the dismissal of Leighton, Bevan kept his head to steer his side home.

Brockhampton lost their last six wickets for only 31 runs as they slipped to a nine-run defeat at Bewdley.

After bowling out their opponents for 144 in 49 overs, they looked well placed to record their 10th win of the season.

They reached 104-4 with useful contributions from Phil Hunt (27), Owen Hewlett (21) and Jon Newton (20). But the lower order collapsed to 135 in the 48th over.

This defeat cost the Herefordshire side fourth place as the two sides started the last fixture locked on 268 points. Seasoned campaigners Roy Wargen (5-30) and Nick Nenadich (3-31) did most of the damage with the ball when the home team batted.

Eastnor's poor run of form continued through to the end of the season as they slumped to an eight-wicket defeat at bottom -placed Stourport.

Jim Sandford contributed 25 as his team was bowled out for 72 in 37 overs. The home team cantered to victory in 25 overs. The consolation Eastnor was that they narrowly avoided relegation for the second year running.

Luctonians completed their first season in Division 1 in style as they routed home team Netherton by 10 wickets to firmly establish themselves in the top half of the table.

Off-spinner Jamie Layton ripped through the batting to claim figures of 6-15 in 11.4 overs, including six maidens. He was well supported by his skipper Karl Pearson with 2-35. Batsmen Stephen Price (38) and Simon Fletcher (20) then took advantage of an improving wicket to complete an emphatic win in only 10 overs.

After some impressive recent performances, Kington turned in a lack-lustre batting display as they went down by 80 runs at Ombersley.

After winning the toss, the visitors performed purposefully in the first innings to bowl out Ombersley in the last over for 152. The wickets were shared by the stalwart pairing of Kevin Gwynne (6-51) and Edward Price (4-26).

David Morgan (23) gave the Kington reply a promising start, but the score quickly tumbled from 34-1 to 40-7 and the writing was on the wall. They were whittled out for 72.
