Norfolk FA 1 Herefordshire FA 3

HEREFORDSHIRE booked a place in the second round of the FA County Youth Cup with a fine win over last season's beaten semi-finals Norfolk at Dereham Town FC.

Andy Sherlock had a third-minute effort well saved by the home keeper Darren Fuller before Norfolk's Joe Quick forced a stop from keeper Richard Elton.

Herefordshire's Brad Pearson gave Fuller no chance with a 20-yard drive to break the deadlock soon afterwards, while John Jenkins, Danny Hill and Jack Gwillim all went close.

Chris Vargeson should have levelled the scores with a close-range header before half-time, but he atoned for the miss on 61 minutes when he latched onto a through ball and beat Elton.

Herefordshire regained their lead within two minutes, however, when the lively Hill caught Fuller in possession, robbed him of the ball and calmly slotted home.

And the visitors grabbed a deserved third goal three minutes later when Hill was upended by Fuller and Pearson netted the resultant spot-kick.

Herefordshire now face a second round trip to the winners of the Army and Hertfordshire FA, who play on September 30.
