THE weekend football programme was heavily disrupted by the fuel crisis, which led to the cancellation of many fixtures, including all of the county's top two soccer leagues.

Saturday's fixtures in the Hereford Times Herefordshire League were all called off, including the first rounds of the HFL Junior Cup and the HFL Peterson Cup.

All matches in the Jewson Herefordshire Sunday League were also cancelled by the league.

The first rounds of the Wye Guild Cup and the Shelton Cup, scheduled for last Sunday, will now be played on October 15, while both second round draws have been put back to November.

The Banks's Brewery West Midlands League was also affected, with cancellations for several county clubs.

In the Premier Division, Brierley Hill Town v Westfields and Wellington v Tipton Town were both postponed and in Division 1 South, Bustleholme Reserves v Hinton and Ledbury Town v Malvern Town Reserves fell victim.

Hereford United Ladies' away match with Atherstone in the Women's West Midlands Premier League was also called off.

The HGTA Herefordshire Junior League struggled through the crisis, however, as clubs are allowed to provide their own referee if a match is without a league official.
