Hereford karting brothers Luke and Dean Jones are preparing for the new season when they are set to compete against each other following a successful 2000.

Luke, 12, the younger of the two siblings, picked up a haul of trophies over the past year racing in the 'cadet' age group, most notably when he triumphed in the Rissington Championships.

He also recorded second position in both the Midlands and Welsh Championships, while 13-year-old 'junior TKM' racer Dean was third in his age group at the Welsh Championships.

This season, Luke will move up into the same age category as Dean and the brothers will race together in the southern section of the National Kart Racing Association Championships, which starts in May. The following season they are aiming to enter the British Championships.

The brothers' success may not have come as a complete surprise to the Jones family, who have a fine motorsport pedigree.

Luke and Dean's father Dave is an ex-bike racer who can count a class victory at the Manx Grand Prix amongst his achievements.

And Dave, who has raced karts himself, advised his boys that karting was the way to go as it was not as dangerous or injury-prone as the two-wheeled racing in which he made his name.

Anyone who would be interested in sponsoring Luke or Dean should contact Dave Jones on 07855 264734.
