Bromyard 22 pts Upton-on-Severn 3

A STRONG second-half performance saw Brom-yard resume their North Midlands 1 programme after a short break with a fine win over local rivals Upton.

It was virtually stalemate in a dour first half with only a Mark Panniers penalty edging Bromyard into a slender interval lead.

Bromyard looked a different side after they changed ends and immediately took the game to the visitors with some fine attacking rugby. Jason Evans made a powerful burst to breach the Upton defence and touch down under the posts, with Panniers adding the extra points.

They continued to press and went further ahead when pacy winger Gareth Griffiths raced clear for an unconverted corner try. Rob Yeomans and Gareth Walsh shone as the home pack snuffed out any threat from the big Upton forwards.

Centre Andrew Bishop put the result beyond doubt when he crossed for Bromyard's third try, again converted by Panniers. The visitors rallied at the end but could only manage a late consolation penalty goal.

l The 2nd XV gained a 19-5 win over visiting Upton, Tom Walker, Gareth Boxhall and Roger Dixon scoring tries and Boxhall adding two conversions.

The 3rd XV completed the hat-trick over Upton with a comfortable 24-0 home victory. Debutant Tony Price got the first try, with Rhys Hughes, Jonathan Baker and Graham Williams also touching down.
