DEFENCES were on top as Colwall drew 0-0 with visiting Taunton Vale in their West Clubs Women's League Premier Division 1 clash.

Colwall had the majority of possession but could not break down the stubborn visitors' rearguard.

A youthful Leominster side gave high-flying Colwall 2nd a hard game in Severn Division 2 before going down 4-2 at home.

The visitors caught Leominster napping with two quick goals and added a third before the interval. Leominster fought back well and Abbie Thomas found the target twice after slick inter-passing with Jenny Schenke and Vicky Benson.

As they pushed forward for the equaliser Colwall broke away to score and put the result beyond doubt.

Hereford gave a lack-lustre performance as they crashed to a 4-0 home defeat against Portishead Firebrands in the North Division. It was thanks to a plucky display by their goalkeeper, Fran Laws, that kept the margin down to four goals.

Hereford 2nd fared even worse and suffered an 8-2 reverse at Dursley in Severn Division 2.

After conceding two early goals they fought back to level when Liz Price and Jan Pudge found the target from short corners.

That was the end of the comeback as the hosts fired in two more goals before the interval and another four in the second half.

A brace each for Kate Cameron and Helen Christmas gave Ross a 4-0 away win over Chelten-ham 2nd in Severn Division 1.

Although the visitors looked strong on the break, the Ross defence was solid, with Cameron striking twice to give the home side a two-goal advantage at the interval.

It was much the same after the break with Christmas adding two more goals to wrap up a deserved win.
