AFTER a short break the first XV resumed league duties last Saturday and secured a convincing win with a strong second half performance against local rivals Upton in the North Midlands Division One.

Bromyard 22pts, UPTON 3pts

It was virtually stalemate in the first half with only a Mark Panniers penalty separating the teams at the midway stage.

But it was Bromyard who came out stronger in the second half, and Jason Evans who broke through Upton's defence to score the first try under post converted by Panniers.

They went further ahead when winger Gareth Griffths who had been outstanding in defence showed his pace to secure Bromyard's second try.

The pack meanwhile successfully snuffed out the threat from Upton's big forwards with Rob Yeomans and Gareth Walsh to the fore.

Neil Holmes made an impact on the line out when he came on in the second half and centre Andrew Bishop put the game out of Upton's reach when he scored Bromyard's final try that with a conversion by Panniers sealed the game.

A late penalty by Upton gave a final score line of 22-3.

BROMYARD 2ND 19pts,

UPTON 2ND 5pts

BROMYARD'S second string continued their impressive recent form despite the call up to first team duty of inspirational captain Norman Legge.

Tries by Tom Walker, Gareth Boxhall and Roger Dixon and two conversions by Boxhall secured the win.

BROMYARD 3RD 24pts,

UPTON 3RD 0

AN impressive win was just rewards for skipper Kevin Jones' hard work so far this season, and debutante Tony Price secured the first try.

Also on the score sheet were Rhys Hughes, Jonathan Baker and Graham Williams.
