Sarah Hervey-Bathurst, of Eastnor Castle, has officially turned on the water to a restored Victorian drinking fountain in Eastnor.

In a special ceremony watched by youngsters from the local primary school, Mrs Hervey-Bathhurst also gave the children a lesson in the history of the fountain, which has been restored to celebrate the Millennium.

She said the project was "a marvellous idea".

Pipes connecting the former Temperance Fountain, now renamed the Eastnor Village Millennium Fountain, to the mains were laid by workers from the Eastnor Estate.

Parish Council funds "in the order of £1,000" paid for the link-up and the restoration of the fountain itself.

Parish councillor George Thorpe said: "The launch went fine and afterwards everyone had a glass of water to celebrate!"
