Wellington 3 Wolverhampton United 3

BOTH teams were given a standing ovation after this West Midlands League Premier Division thriller which was in balance right up to the final whistle.

Wellington opened the scoring after 15 minutes through Mark Fish who headed home from close range after Willie Lindesay had knocked a corner back across the goalmouth.

Wolves hit back twice in the final minutes of the half to take an interval lead and went further ahead in the 60th minute when they finished a sweeping move down the right with a near-post header.

The introduction of Andy Morrison saw Wellington start to win the midfield battle and they pulled a goal back when Peter Wallace flicked on a Morrison pass for Mark Cross to slide the ball home.

Minutes later Cross raced clear but lifted the ball over the bar with only the goalkeeper to beat. But Wellington duly got back on terms through Wallace after good work by Brad Pearson and Owen Marriott.

Despite near misses at both ends in the closing minutes neither side could find the decisive goal and deservedly shared the points.
