Darlaston 2 Westfields 1

WESTFIELDS slumped to their third successive West Midlands League Premier Division away defeat after dominating the game for long periods and creating enough chances to have put the result beyond doubt.

After a couple of good attempts from Matt Morris and Chris Jefferson, Westfields took the lead after 20 minutes through young striker Danny Phillips with an 18-yard drive after Tim Powell had opened up the Darlaston defence.

It was all Westfields for the rest of the half with Jefferson racing clear of the home defence, only to see his shot rebound to safety off the crossbar, and then sending a fierce drive past goal.

Within a minute of the restart Darlaston equalis-ed from a bizarre mix-up in the visitors' defence. Matt Morris and goalkeeper Jon Pugh got themselves in a tangle from a long throw-in and the ball bounced off Morris and trickled into the net.

Westfields stormed back into the game but Powell and Mark Hibbard were both denied by excellent saves.

Darlaston took the lead against the run of play after 70 minutes when the ball dropped for Simon Archer to score from 12 yards.

Although Westfields pressed strongly in the closing minutes, they could not get back on terms.
