Kington Cricket Club's bid for a place in the Birmingham League will be reviewed at a meeting next month.

The league management board are reconsidering an earlier decision in which they barred entry to the former National Village champions.

Kington, the runaway Worcester-shire County League Division 1 champions, were denied promotion to the Birmingham League because their pitch at the town Recreational Ground would not be available for two separate Saturdays in the season.

Kington stalwart Kevin Gwynne said: "The issue is likely to be discussed at length and the management committee will be asked to vote again. My own personal view is that the league have nothing to vote on, and we should be allowed to take our rightful place in Division 2 West."

Gwynne added: "Obviously, it's got to be good news that the league is reconsidering our application. However, it's still not a foregone conclusion that we are going to be accepted."

Kington have been given the full support of the Worcestershire County League and the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Boards.

The England & Wales Cricket Board at Lord's have said they do not have direct jurisdiction over the issue until the Birmingham League have reviewed their own decision.

Meanwhile, West Malvern have been accepted into next season's Catley-Staite Sunday Cricket League.

The club have for many years played in the Worcester Evening League. They will be competing in Division 2 of the Herefordshire-based Sunday league, established last season with the aim of developing young players.
